Mike Acosta is the Historian and Authentication Manager for the Houston Astros where he manages team archives and the Astros Hall of Fame. A native Houstonian who grew up going to the Astrodome, Mike joined the Astros in 1999 as a Broadcast Intern where he assisted in the production of the team’s radio broadcast. He helped in the restructure of the team’s guest services department from 2001-2002 and sold $6.5 million in season ticket and premium sales from 2003-2008. He also promoted the Astros through the team’s speakers bureau in the greater Houston area. In 2009 Mike fully integrated the MLB authentication program into the Astros organization which certifies and distinguishes officially authenticated game-used and team-issued items that are utilized as artifacts for the Astros Hall of Fame, given to players for career milestones or sold to Astros fans. Through the creation of Astros Authentics, Mike has been responsible for $5.2 million in sales of MLB authenticated merchandise.
Mike is the co-author of 2013’s Houston Astros: Deep in the Heart and spent more than 10 years broadcasting Houston-area high school and college baseball and football. In 2017 he partnered with another local historian in submitting an application in gaining a physical Recorded Texas Historic Landmark marker for the Astrodome, which was officially dedicated in 2018. In 2019 he helped bring the Astros Hall of Fame to life through the creation of an advisory board, the design of inductee plaques and sports coats, an inaugural class and a long-term plan for exhibits.
