The Astrodome — the world’s first domed stadium — turned 60 years old Wednesday, as Harris County officials continue mulling what’s to become of the landmark that hasn’t seen a baseball game or rodeo for decades.

From Astros games to Elvis concerts, the legendary stadium has a remarkable history and remains an iconic part of the Houston landscape. 

When was the Astrodome Built?

The Houston Astrodome opened in 1965 and was originally named the Harris County Domed Stadium. The Astrodome was the first fully-enclosed sports stadium and first air-conditioned event venue.
